15 Years of Acne Patch Factory Manufacturing and Wholesale
You sent a brief. The factory responded with a list of follow-up questions. You answered. They asked more. This cycle repeats three more times before a quote finally lands. By then, two weeks have passed and the project has lost momentum.
This is not a communication style problem. Manufacturers need specific technical and commercial details to build a product that matches what you imagined. A brief that sounds detailed often omits the specifics that determine whether the factory quote is accurate, the sample is right, and the production run goes smoothly.
Brands that have scaled into thousands of retail doors did not get there by sending vague briefs. They arrived at the supplier conversation with concrete patch specifications, packaging parameters, and commercial terms already thought through. This article covers what needs to be locked before you approach a factory.
A vague brief triggers a question cycle. A specific brief triggers a quote. The difference looks like this:
| Vague Brief | Specific Brief |
|---|---|
| “Small clear patch in a sealed pouch” | “Round hydrocolloid, 12mm, tapered edge, ultra-transparent finish, 6 patches per sheet, 1 sheet per foil sachet, CMYK print, retail box included” |
| “Star-shaped patch for our brand” | “Star-shaped custom die-cut, 10mm, colored hydrocolloid, 8 patches per sheet with perforations, MOQ 10,000 units” |
| “We want something like [Brand X]” | “Yellow-colored hydrocolloid star patch, 10mm, custom shape tooling required, target retail $14.99, Amazon and DTC channel” |
Patch specifications are the most common source of vague briefs. “Clear patch” could mean standard hydrocolloid with high transparency, or an ultra-thin format with a distinct edge profile.
Standard hydrocolloid, ultra-thin transparent, microneedle, or ingredient-added. Specify format first; they cost and manufacture differently.
Define diameter range and whether the edge is tapered (daytime) or squared (easier handling). This matters for positioning and production.
Patches per sheet, sheet dimensions, and perforations. If you want a mix of sizes on one sheet, specify this upfront.
The most common mistake buyers make is specifying the patch without detailing the packaging. Packaging decisions affect cost, MOQ, and lead time as much as the patch itself.
Packaging artwork cannot be finalized without confirmed label content. Once sent to print, changes become expensive or impossible.
Commercial terms do not need to be finalized, but they need to be indicated. Without a target quantity, the factory cannot optimize the quote (e.g., tooling amortization differs between 3k and 30k units). State your target price or budget range, expected payment terms (e.g., 30/70), and target delivery window.
Before sending a brief to any manufacturer, confirm these details are specified:
