Spot Patch Sample Evaluation: What to Check Before Approving Production

This gap between sample and production is the most common private label disappointment. The cause is rarely malicious—factories shift to production mode where material batches vary and processes optimize for speed. The assumption that the sample perfectly represents what will ship is the point of failure.

• ✔ 1. Physical Specs: Measure 10+ patches. Thickness should match spec within ±0.05mm. Weight variance over 5% suggests inconsistency.
• ✔ 2. Adhesion Performance: Wear it for your intended duration (6-8 hours overnight). Check if edges lift early or if residue remains upon removal.
• ✔ 3. Absorption Performance: Apply to a small amount of water. It should turn cloudy gradually, not saturate instantly or become gummy.
• ✔ 4. Packaging & Artwork: Test seal integrity. Ensure all fonts in artwork are outlined (Shift+Ctrl+O) to avoid print errors.
• ✔ 5. Batch Consistency Indicators: Request material lot numbers, production dates, and process parameters (temp/speed) to baseline production verification.

• ☐ Test Against a Reference: Compare side-by-side with an existing benchmark product.
• ☐ Test Multiple Pieces: Evaluate at least 10-15 patches. One perfect patch means nothing.
