The taper is a die-cutting and formulation decision. It costs more because it requires precise tooling, but it is the highest-return tactile investment in perceived quality.
Clear patches can show a white ring where the material was compressed by the blade. This reads as a band-aid border regardless of center transparency.

Not necessarily. A very thin patch with a stiff backing film can feel like plastic tape. A slightly thicker patch with excellent flexibility and a feathered edge can disappear on skin better. Flexibility and edge design matter more than the caliper number alone.
